Claim: "It's all how you raise them". While this is somewhat true, the more accurate statement is: "It's all how you love them". Most people aren't aware that many of the dogs rescued from the Michael Vick fighting ring were successfully rehabilitated when they were allowed to love instead of being forced to fight. Thanks to Best Friends Animal Society for rescuing 22 of the "Vick" dogs - although this was several years ago, it's still relevant today because it's a powerful example of how dogs that were raised with severe abuse and labeled "too damaged to rehabilitate" turned out to be happy, loving dogs when the abuse stopped and the love began. While this was a horrible and inhumane situation, it is also clear indisputable evidence of the resilience, the desire to love, and the inherent goodness that lives in ALL dogs.
